Specializing in what she calls "culinary excursions," Lisa Rogovin of In the Kitchen with Lisa has built a mini empire of touring Bay Area foodie hotspots in places like the Ferry Building Marketplace, Berkeley's Gourmet Ghetto, West Marin, and wine country.

This week she's launching the latest chapter: the Taste the Mission Tour, hitting up half a dozen spots along the 24th Street corridor. "I just felt like the area needed to be uncovered," she says. Every second and fourth Saturday of the month starting this week, Rogovin will lead tours that cover a remarkably wide-ranging swath of Mission favorites.

The tour starts at Omnivore Books (3885a Cesar Chavez at Church), California's only cookbook store, where guests will taste snacks from La Cocina's Botanas Felicitas (2948 Folsom at 25th St.). From there, the tour stops at Mission Pie (2901 Mission at 25th St.) for a handmade tartlet; for a taste of the current mobile food craze, guests get to enjoy a pastry from Bike Basket Pies. The tour also hits ice cream spot Humphry Slocombe (2790 Harrison at 24th St.) and Dynamo Donuts (2760 24th St. at York) for tastes of their distinctive flavors, and wraps up with classic Mexican from El Farolito (2777 Mission at 24th St.) for tacos, La Palma (2884 24th St. at Florida) for huaraches and salsa, and La Victoria Bakery (2937 24th St. at Florida) for pan dulce.

"It's a unique neighborhood, and I think people will really have a good time meeting the local business owners," Rogovin says. "This is a very different tourist experience than the Golden Gate Bridge or [Fisherman's] Wharf."

The Taste the Mission Tour kicks off this Saturday, Feb. 27, at 11 a.m. and costs $75 per person. To make reservations (at least 48 hours in advance), call 806-5970 or e-mail lisa@inthekitchenwithlisa.com.
