North Berkeley Food Tour

ABOUT THE TOUR

$120 per person (+ $2 booking fee)

The birthplace of California Cuisine and farm-to-table eating, North Berkeley is home to both long-established culinary icons and emerging edible enterprises. Alice Waters’ Chez Panisse made this neighborhood world-famous since the 1970s; the area takes its nickname from all of the eateries and food businesses to have sprouted in its shadow. Today, this food-focused area is still committed to serving some of the nation's best seasonal, organic fare and it continues to abide by sustainable business practices that benefit farmers, restaurant workers, and the food system.

Our knowledgeable guides - award-winning food writers, chefs, and restaurant workers - will lead you to the neighborhood’s iconic destinations, such as the Jewish deli and restaurant, Saul’s, for house made pastrami sandwiches and artisan soda. You’ll visit the Peet’s Coffee flagship location, sample pizza-of-the-day and gourmet cheese from the historic The Cheese Board Collective, learn about sustainable whole-animal butchery from The Local Butcher Shop, and more. You probably won't need a dinner plan after this flavor-filled afternoon!

This tour is well-suited for hungry history buffs or those seeking to learn more about the roots of SF Bay Area culture and the evolution of the national food scene.
