Alice was incredible; she was warm, thoughtful, and really showed us the ins and outs of her community not only through food but also through her personal stories. Everyone had a lovely time and felt like they not only got to know Alice but to also learn something about Japan town and the history of San Francisco. She was an absolute treat as was the food! Thank you so much for a wonderful Saturday!

One of only three remaining Japantowns in the United States, this San Francisco neighborhood is filled with culinary gems. Many locals have yet to uncover the hidden restaurants, ethnic markets, and mom-and-pop food businesses that make this district so special.

Tastes here may include sweet potato lattes from YakiniQ Café; onigiri (rice balls); okonomiyaki (Japanese frittata); sweet and savory mochi from one of Japantown’s first businesses, Benkyodo Confections; and authentic Masala dosa with chutney from DOSA on Fillmore. After the tour, you’ll be the expert on where to find the goods in this neighborhood.
